I recently published research findings in the British Medical Journal which showed that female veterinarians have double the risk of miscarriage from exposure to anaesthetics, X-rays and pesticides.

Now at London’s prestigious Imperial College, where I hold a post-doctoral research fellowship, I am looking at exposure to pesticides and their link to congenital birth defects.

The same chemicals are used in veterinary practices around the world. Protection devices and better ventilation would go a long way in preventing reproductive problems.

The research which I carried out others in my field will significantly contribute to reducing the adverse effects of occupational hazards in veterinary practices in the future.

I intend to return to Perth at the completion of my post-doctoral research fellowship to work at the WA Telethon Institute for Child Health Research.
