Welcome to the 'Building Capacity in Palliative Care Clinical Training' project website.

This project has been funded by Health Workforce Australia. The project is being led by Nursing at the School of Population Health, within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, at the University of Western Australia, in collaboration with The University of Notre Dame Australia (UNDA) School of Nursing and Midwifery Fremantle Campus and Bethesda Hospital. The project is supported by the Cancer Council WA, Palliative Care WA Inc., and the WA Cancer and Palliative Care Network.

This project aims to address the need to increase the overall capacity of quality training for nursing, medical and other health professional students, in the area of inpatient and community palliative care.

The project collaborators are committed to providing health professional students with sound education in palliative care. An evaluation research study will be undertaken to evaluate the outcomes of this project.

About this project
The ‘Building Capacity in Palliative Care Clinical Training’ project will contribute to addressing clinical training and future workforce issues, not only in palliative care clinical settings, but for health care professionals in all settings who need to be competent and confident in addressing palliative and end-of-life issues.
What is palliative care?
The definition and perceptions of palliative care have evolved over time to move beyond care of the dying, to care of those with a life limiting illness.
