Palliative care research

Palliative care research is integral in improving standards of care and patient/client outcomes. The following national and international research centres are working towards this goal.

  1. National research
  2. International research

National research

Calvary Centre for Palliative Care Research

A collaborative partnership between the Australian Catholic University and Calvery Health Care ACT. This partnership aims to conduct nurse lead research at both the national and international level, with an aim to improve outcomes for patients and improve clinical practice in the area of palliative care.

Centre for Palliative Care Research and Education (CPCRE)

The Centre for Palliative Care Research and Education (CPCRE) was established by Queensland Health in 2001 to enhance palliative care services in Queensland through education and research endeavours. CPCRE is led by a consortium of organisations who work with other agencies to improve the quality of care provided to people with a life-limiting illness. The Centre's work focuses on;

  • developing the capacity of the palliative care workforce to provide quality palliative care,
  • improving the links between research and practice in palliative care,
  • undertaking research to enhance the quality of palliative care,
  • providing information which supports the delivery of palliative care services.

Palliative Care Outcomes Collaboration

Palliative CareOutcomes Collaboration (PCOC) was established in 2005 with the main aim to enhance palliative care delivery in Australia. It is the only national voluntary program of its kind. PCOC is funded under the National Palliative Care Program and is supported by the Australian Government through the Department of Health and Ageing. The project is open to all palliative care providers in Australia. Free workshops are offered to services participating in the study.
