Interprofessional education

Interprofessional education “occasions when two or more professions learn with, from and about each other to improve collaboration and the quality of care” (CAIPE,2002).

One of the most effective ways for students to gain an understanding of the roles of other professions is to work together in practice. Nationally, there is a trend to integrate interprofessional education into all health professional courses.

There is now sufficient evidence to indicate that interprofessional education enables effective collaborative practice which in turn optimises health services, strengthens health systems and improves health outcomes

Throughout this clinical placement students from the University of Western Australia (medical and nursing) and students from The University of Notre Dame Australia (nursing) may have the opportunity to participate in interprofessional practice & education.

Students should take the time to review the Preparation for Interprofessional Practice Handbook prior to commencing this clinical placement.
