Bonded Medical Places (BMP)

In accordance with the Department of Health and Ageing, 28.5% of all Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) have been designated as BMPs.  

As per the Department of Health and Ageing BMP website, "this Scheme provides a Commonwealth-supported place in an Australian medical school, for which recipients are required to work in a district of workforce shortage or Modified Monash Model location 4-7 for a period of time equal to 12 months. It can be worked in blocks of no less than 12 weeks. This period can be completed between commencing internship and five years after fellowship is achieved".
 

Please note that applicants must be Australian Citizens or Australian Permanent Residents in order to be considered for a BMP.

Quotas

Direct Pathways [School Leaver Entry]
  • There are no bonded places for the Indigenous Pathway
  • 28.5% of places within the High Academic Achievement Direct Pathway will be bonded
  • 28.5% of places within the Broadway Direct Pathway will be bonded
  • 28.5% of places within the Rural Direct Pathway will be bonded
Graduate Pathways
  • 28.5% of all domestic medical places are BMPs; however because there were no School Leaver entry BMPs for the High Academic Achievement Pathway in 2014, the Standard Pathway will have more than 28.5% BMPs (approximately 40-45% of places within the Standard Pathway will be BMP for 2017 entry).
