If you would like to become an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon (OMS), you will need to complete both the dental (DMD) degree and the medical (MD) degree.

Upon completion of both degrees, applicants can apply to the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons to undertake a training programme.

Please note that no credit or exemptions can be granted within the DMD and MD. Students will need to complete both degrees in full. 

special pathway for certain applicants who have completed one of the degrees and now need to complete the other may be available for eligible applicants. 

Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons OMS Pathway

The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons offers a 4-year training programme.  For information on the program please see the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons OMS Training Pathway website.

In order to apply for eligibility for training, the applicant will be required to have completed a Dental degree and hold full registration as a dentist in Australia or New Zealand, a Medical degree and hold full registration as a medical practitioner in Australian or New Zealand and have completed an intern and Surgery-in-General year.
