The Graduate Certificate in Rural and Remote Medicine is a broad-based degree for those wishing to pursue a career in teaching or research focused on rural and remote medicine.

Rural and remote medicine is a generalist discipline. The range of research topics is very wide, from large-scale epidemiological studies to educational and qualitative or clinical studies.

Course outline

The Graduate Certificate in Rural and Remote Medicine consists of:

• RMED8802 Philosophy of Rural and Remote Medicine
• RMED8803 Principles of Clinical Teaching and Learning (Rural)

and two of:

• RMED8801 Rural Clinical Education Practice
• RMED8804 Research Methods for Rural Medicine
• RMED8805 Special Topics in Rural and Remote Medicine—Communication
• RMED8806 Special Topics in Rural and Remote Medicine—Clinical

Admission requirements

Entry to the Graduate Certificate requires:

• qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
• plus either completion of fellowship training in the appropriate specialist college or enrolment in such training.

English Language Competence

All UWA coursework programs have a minimum level of English language competence necessary, for both Domestic and International students.
