What is honours?

Honours refers to a final (usually fourth) year of study which may be undertaken by students who have achieved a particular academic standard.

An honours course usually consists of a combination of coursework and dissertation, although this may vary from school to school.

Why should I do honours?

Honours is a great way to show the world how good you are! You continue to focus on your major subject(s) while developing research, time management, problem solving, communication and other useful skills.

Successfully completing an honours project allows you to demonstrate to potential employers that you are a high achiever, committed to realising your goals, able to take responsibility for a project and work to a high standard.

Can I do honours in more than one subject?

Yes - joint honours courses between two or more schools are possible at UWA.

You should consult the heads of the schools concerned to discuss the feasibility of such a program and plan a suitable course.

Honours is a necessary step to postgraduate study, if you are considering undertaking a masters or PhD in the future.
