We are able to provide some information on the average GPA and overall GAMSAT scores for successful graduate medicine and dentistry applicants who applied last year (2016 for 2017 entry).

The information provided on this website is to be used as a guide only and applicants with scores above the listed averages are not guaranteed an interview or a place in the course.  There is also no guarantee that the scores will be similar this year.

This information relates to domestic applicants.  We do not have enough data to be able to provide information for International applicants.  International applicants should therefore contact the Faculty for advice on whether to apply.

Doctor of Medicine (MD)

The MD commenced in 2014.

Average Scores for all Pathways for the 2016-17 admission cycle

Last year (2016 applications for 2017 entry) the average GPA for Standard Pathway applicants who were made an offer in the course was approximately 6.83 while the average overall GAMSAT score was approximately 69.07.

For applicants to the Rural Pathway, the average GPA was approximately 6.57 while the average GAMSAT score was 62.7.

Please note that all applicants also had an interview score contributing to their final ranking. Rural applicants also had a Rural Rating.

Standard Pathway- Further information on scores

For the Standard Pathway, the lowest GPA score to be made a course offer was 6.29 with a GAMSAT score of 72. The lowest GAMSAT score to be made a course offer was 62 with a GPA of 6.96. In either case, applicants with low GPAs or low GAMSAT scores would have also required competitive interview scores. For final ranking the GAMSAT, GPA and Interview are equally weighted. Applicants made an offer in the course with a GPA below 6.5 had overall GAMSAT scores of at least 72. Applicants made an offer in the course with an overall GAMSAT score below 65 had GPAs of at least 6.79.

Rural Pathway- Further information on scores

For the Rural Pathway, the lowest GPA score to be made a course offer was 5.82 with a GAMSAT score of 63. The lowest GAMSAT score to be made a course offer was 57 with a GPA of 6.60. In either case, applicants with low GPAs or low GAMSAT scores would have also required competitive interview scores and Rurality Rating scores. For final ranking the GAMSAT, GPA, Rurality Rating and Interview are equally weighted.

Note for all applicants

Please note that because the GPA, GAMSAT and Interview scores are weighted equally for Standard and Broadway Pathway applicants, and because the GPA, GAMSAT, Interview and Rurality Rating scores are weighted equally for Rural Pathway applicants, there are many combination of scores that may have been competitive for a place. Combinations consisting of higher GPA scores coupled with lower GAMSAT scores, or vice versa, may still have been competitive for a place, bearing in mind the minimum values for each.

There were more places available in the 2016-17 intake.  Approximately 20 places will be available in the 2017-18 graduate intake (including all sub quotas).

Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)

The DMD commenced in 2013.

Last year (2016 applications for 2017 entry) the average GPA for applicants who were made an offer in the course was 6.59 for the Standard Pathway. The number of places in the Rural and Broadway Pathways is too small to report individual pathway averages.

Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM)

The DPM commenced in 2013.  As a boutique specialist course, it is currently too early for us to have an idea of what the average GAMSAT and GPA’s would be.

As the application for domestic applicants to the DPM is free, we would encourage you to submit an application if you have a minimum GPA of 5.0 and either at least 50 overall in the GAMSAT or have certain pre-requisite subjects. Please contact us if you have sat GAMSAT and have one section score slightly below 50.
