Prospective applicants who hold a Bachelor degree (or are in their final year of their first Bachelor degree) may be eligible to apply for graduate entry into the Doctor of Medicine (MD).  

Domestic graduate applicants apply for the MD through GEMSAS.  2018 applications (for 2019 entry) will open early May and close on 31 May 2018 in accordance with the GEMSAS timeline

Doctor of Medicine (MD):


For domestic students the total intake each year is 209 places, which includes various sub quotas: 

70% of total places are allocated for Direct Pathway Students with 30% of places available for Graduate Pathway students. Due to transitional arrangements taking place in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 admissions cycles, the number of places available for graduate entry into these cohorts will be fewer than 30%.

Entry Requirements:

  • Completion of a UWA bachelor degree or equivalent
  • A minimum GPA of 5.5 from the most recent three years (FTE) of valid study
  • Sit GAMSAT and obtain a suitable score.
  • Interview (which must be undertaken in Perth and in-person)
  • English Language Competency
  • There is no 10 year rule therefore applicants who completed their bachelor degree more than 10 years ago remain eligible to apply for the MD

Application Process:

  • Applications will be made through GEMSAS.  2018 applications (for 2019 entry) will open early May and will close in accordance with the GEMSAS timeline.

Final Ranking:

  • Final ranking for non-rural applicants to the MD will be based equally on GAMSAT, GPA and Interview
  • Final ranking for rural applicants to the MD will be based equally on GAMSAT, GPA, Interview and a Rurality Ranking


  • Applicants to the MD are not able to defer their place in the course except under exceptional circumstances.

Course Commencement:

  • Commencement including a compulsory orientation is planned for 22 January 2018.

Broadway places for graduate entry are limited and will be offered in the event that the Broadway quota is not filled by Direct Pathway students progressing into the MD. 

In order to be considered in the event that Broadway places are available for graduate applicants, please indicate your eligibility as part of your GEMSAS application.  You are eligible for consideration as a Broadway applicant if you have undertaken your entire year 12 studies, including WACE, at a UWA Broadway school
