All applicants to the Direct Pathway (International School Leavers) to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) and the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) must sit ISAT.

The ISAT is a 3-hour computer-based multiple choice test designed to assess a candidate's intellectual skills and abilities that are the foundation of academic success at tertiary level. The purpose of ISAT is not so much to test an applicant's knowledge of specific academic subjects, as to assess an applicant's ability to understand and analyse provided material. The test is not a test of subject specific knowledge.  Rather, it aims to assess a candidate's 'critical' and 'quantitative' reasoning skills.  Information on the test can be found on the ISAT website.

  • ISAT must be sat by 31 May 2018 (for 2018 applications for 2019 entry)
  • Applicants must forward ISAT scores to the Faculty by 13 June 2018 (for 2018 applications for 2019 entry)
  • ISAT scores are valid for two years; however applicants may only sit the test once every 12 months
  • It is recommended that applicants read widely and practice the sample questions
  • Applicants will need to be in at least the 25th percentile of each section of the test to be eligible for consideration
  • Applicants will be shortlisted for interview on the basis of the ISAT score (with the condition that they also appear likely to meet the minimum academic requirement).
