Applicants will need to complete a bachelor degree before commencing the Doctor of Medicine (MD),  Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM).

Applicants can undertake any bachelor degree and there are no preferred or recommended bachelor courses.  However, there are some recommended subjects that can be taken within a bachelor degree.

In addition to checking the prerequisite and recommended subjects for the MD, DMD and DPM courses, applicants should also check prerequisite subjects for their initial bachelor degree.

Prerequisite subjects

All applicants are required to meet the English Competency Level for the University of Western Australia.  Applicants who complete the last two years of full-time (or equivalent) degree study in Australia will automatically meet this requirement.

Recommended subjects

It is recommended that applicants have undertaken the following units/subjects:

  • Physics to year 12 level
  • Chemistry to first year university level (including completion of year 12 level chemistry)
  • Biology or Human Biology at first year university level

These subjects are not prerequisite; however completion of these subjects will help applicants in the course as well as in the Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT)/The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) (for those entering MD and DMD via the Graduate Pathways, or for those entering DPM).

For information on the recommended subjects that can be undertaken at UWA please see here.
