Research areas
We are a research-intensive faculty, providing high-quality educational and research programs for the spectrum of medical, dental and health science disciplines.
Our Schools research encompass:
- Dentistry contributes to our basic understanding of oral diseases and to applied aspects of their prevention and treatment.
- Medicine and Pharmacology has a large and successful research program, carried out in laboratories, hospitals and the community and spanning the breadth of medical research.
- LactaResearch Group - supporting effective lactation through the translation of research to practice
- Paediatrics and Child Health covers many clinical and specialist areas including allergy and immunology, asthma genetics, and cognitive neuroscience and neuropsychology.
- Population Health takes a strong evidence-based approach to services and health program evaluation.
- Primary, Aboriginal and Rural Health Care research includes clinical studies and trials, and primary care research in urban and rural settings.
- Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences covers diagnosis, assessment, epidemiology, genetics and treatment of mental disorders including schizophrenia, dementia, somatoform, anxiety and substance use.
- Surgery has extensive and diverse research interests including burns, cancer and transplants as well as research methodology and surgical education.
- Women?s and Infants? Health produces research focused on fetal and newborn medicine.
- Pathology encompasses immunology, molecular biology, haematology, anatomical pathology, clinical biochemistry and microbiology.

Foundations
- The Raine Medical Research Foundation represents the largest bequest received by The University of Western Australia for medical research. It has supported scores of major research projects, funded two Centres of Excellence, established fellowships and scholarships, participated in major joint ventures, and fostered medical research at the undergraduate level.
The Raine Foundation supports research seeking, diagnosing and investigating the nature, origin and causes of diseases in human beings. Opportunities for support include Grants, Fellowships, Visiting Professorships, Prizes and Awards.

Collaborations
Faculty staff collaborate with prominent institutes, teaching hospitals, specialist research organisations and community groups on an enormous range of projects. Researchers across the schools work with national and international teams from Southeast Asia, Europe, USA, Canada, South Africa and India.
