Overseas, research-based and seeding fellowships are offered by the Faculty.

UWA Research-based and seeding fellowships [NOW CLOSED]

Research-based and seeding fellowships are for a period of two years.

Purpose

To enhance medical research in our Faculty and also:

  • provide support for biomedical and health researchers who have the potential to be highly productive;
  • encourage independent and original contributions to research when part of a team of researchers;
  • assist with seminars and conferences when there is a need to attend or present research data; or
  • precede the preparation of submissions to external funding bodies for research grants and fellowships.

There is a preference for these fellowships to be awarded to applicants returning to Australia, with no more than three years postdoctoral experience at the time of application.

To determine the eligibility of postdoctoral candidates, the three-year period commences from the date the candidate submitted their thesis for permanent binding.

Applicants who are yet to submit a thesis, or whose thesis is under examination, may be disadvantaged if their thesis has not been classified as passed by the date of the Scholarships and Fellowships meeting to assess applications.

To be considered for our fellowships, you must be a permanent resident of Australia, or an Australian citizen and you will need to provide proof in your application.

NB: A condition of our medical research fellowships is that successful applicants must apply for other sources of funding during the tenure of their UWA award.

Overseas research fellowships [NOW CLOSED]

Purpose

To encourage outstanding UWA medical graduates to pursue further studies or research overseas.

Applicants are required to demonstrate a commitment to return to Western Australia on the completion of their research or clinical skills enhancement.

The duration of these awards is one year in the first instance. However, where a candidate enrolls for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at UWA before leaving Western Australia, and also makes satisfactory progress, the award may be extended for 12 months to support the applicant in the second year of their degree.
