Rural and Remote & Aboriginal Health Specialisations


If you are interested in rural medicine as a career, and have choosen options that reflect your interest, you can have your choices indicated as a specialisation in your academic transcript.

The MBBS specialisation is available to any student who follows the unit rules described here.

In addition to planning your units, meeting with the unit coordinators will also ensure that we identify you at the end of each year and put the appropriate description into your transcript.

Specialisations and Variations

Students intending to pursue a specialisation or variation must meet with the Manager (Student Affairs) and the course coordinator for the relevant specialisation to develop an approved study plan, including clinical placement details.

8.2.2.4 A

  1. Students may, if they so elect, pursue a specialisation or a variation within the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery course (90110).
  2. The specialisations available are

    (a) Rural and Remote Medicine and (b) Aboriginal Health.

  3. The variation available is Rural Clinical Practice.
