Applications are now open for the various scholarships listed below that are available to provide some financial assistance with your Year 4 MD elective placement.

It is recommended you apply in the first instance to the International Centre for a study abroad scholarship, even if you are just thinking about doing an overseas placement or have not finalised your overseas placement. You can always withdraw later if necessary.

The closing date for all of the scholarships is 31 August each year and applications should be submitted to Erin Richardson, Elective Coordinator or lodged at Faculty Education Centre Reception, Ground Floor Ken and Julie Michaels Building. The PMH, MIGA and ISTIH Scholarships which should be sent directly to the organisation.

P.F. Sobotka Undergraduate Scholarship

To assist Level 5/6 Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MB BS) students of The University of Western Australia to undertake approved studies overseas, principally in China and Asian countries. For further information on this Scholarship, please click here.

Davis Undergraduate Scholarship in Palliative Care

To assist and encourage students enrolled in the course for the Bachelor of Medicine and the Bachelor of Surgery to undertake a six to eight week elective in the field of palliative care; and to encourage and enable students to extend their knowledge and experience of palliative care by undertaking their elective at a palliative care centre outside Western Australia which may include a hospice, palliative care unit, hospital-based palliative care consultancy or community-based palliative care service. Fred Grauaug  Memorial Travel Scholarship

To assist and encourage students enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine degree course to undertake their elective placement focussed on infant and paediatric health or mother's and pregnant women's health in a regional or remote Aboriginal community or Timor-Leste. Harold McComb Elective Scholarship

To support a student in the course for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery during an elective placement in a centre assisting those with special needs either in a developing country or in Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander health in Australia. Phyllis Levine Elective Scholarship

To assist and encourage students enrolled in the course for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery to undertake a six-week elective in the field of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander health. For further information on this Scholarship, please click here.

Mary Horsfall Elective Placement Scholarship

To assist Level 6 MB BS students at the University to undertake their elective studies overseas, principally in China or Asia. For further information on this Scholarship, please click here.

Western Australian Medical Students’ Society Elective Placement Travel Scholarship

To assist Level 6 MB BS students undertaking their elective placement overseas by contributing towards the expenses associated with their travel, including airfares, accommodation and ancillary costs. For further information on this Scholarship, please click here.

MIGA FOUNDATION STUDENT ELECTIVE GRANT PROGRAM - Applications close Friday 26 August 2016

“Supporting Medical Students in Developing Communities”. A major benefit of being a student member with MIGA is the opportunity it gives you to apply for an Elective Grant. The Elective Grants Program was established in 2004 with the aim of providing financial support for medical students undertaking their university electives in developing communities. Each year, the Program provides six Grants of $3,500 to medical students pursuing an elective program in an area or personal interest and/or relevance to their medical studies.  

OS-HELP LOAN SCHEME FOR STUDENT ELECTIVES

OS-HELP provides financial assistance to eligible students who are normally based in Australia to undertake part of their course of study overseas. OS-HELP assistance may be used to cover expenses associated with the overseas study, such as airfares, accommodation and other travel or settling expenses. JOHN FLYNN SCHOLARSHIP HOLDERS—PLEASE NOTE

All John Flynn Scholarship holders should note that they will be not be permitted to use this placement as their Year 4 MD elective placement.
